What is a drag racing suit?

A drag racing suit is a multi-layer, flame-resistant fire suit certified to the high SFI 3.2A/15 or /20 tiers — roughly 30 to 40 seconds of thermal protection — because drag racing carries a higher fire risk from nitro, alcohol and nitrous fuel than most circuit racing.

It comes as a jacket-and-pants two-piece or a sealed one-piece, and the protection scales with the bonded Nomex® layer count. We build either style 100% custom — your design, your numbers, your required SFI rating.

What makes a drag suit different

  • Multi-Layer Nomex® Construction

Three to five bonded layers of flame-resistant meta-aramid — the stacked build that earns the high 3.2A/15 and /20 ratings drag classes demand.

  • 30–40 Seconds of Protection

A /15 buys roughly 30 seconds and a /20 about 40 — the margin you want when nitro, alcohol or nitrous raises the fire risk.

  • SFI 3.2A/15 & /20 Certified

Independently tested and certified by the SFI Foundation to the exact high tier your NHRA or IHRA class requires.

  • Boot-Cut Legs + 360° Gussets

Wide boot-cut cuffs clear drag boots, while underarm gussets and a stretch back panel keep a multi-layer suit mobile in the lights.

  • 100% Custom Design

Your colors, panels, sponsors and embroidered name — designed with you, free, with unlimited revisions.

  • Free Gloves + Shoes ($400)

Every custom drag suit ships with matching SFI-rated gloves and shoes included.

The proof, on camera

Real flame. Multi-layer Nomex®. Zero damage.

We held an open flame to the exact stacked Nomex® used in our drag suits. It didn’t ignite, melt or drip — that’s the 30 to 40 seconds the high /15 and /20 ratings buy you when nitro is involved.

  • Won’t ignite — flame-resistant at the fiber level
  • Won’t melt — chars in place to prevent burn-through
  • SFI 3.2A/15 & /20 certified, independently tested

Protection + comfort

Built to protect — and to race in

Certified to the high SFI 3.2A/15 and /20 tiers, the stacked Nomex® chars instead of burning — it won’t ignite, melt or drip, giving you roughly 30 to 40 seconds to escape a fire. That’s the margin a nitro, alcohol or nitrous pass demands.

Boot-cut legs, 360° underarm gussets and a lower-back stretch panel keep a multi-layer suit mobile and cool through staging and the burnout — tailored to your exact measurements so the suit moves with you, not against you.

I'm next-level PICKY. My first custom suit was a K1 suit and it sucked — stitching fell out, fit terribly, came back from alterations just as bad. Then I heard about FervoGear. Skeptical at first, but their designs were great and they're MADE IN AMERICA. We went all in and ordered four 3-layer suits — they all came out awesome. Super comfortable.

FervoGear's suits are hands down some of the best in the industry. We constantly get compliments on how sharp they look — people assume they must have cost thousands of dollars, yet they're surprisingly affordable. We've put them through intense conditions, including a few fires in the race car, and they still look brand new.

The entire process from start to finish was incredibly smooth. I sent over some basic design ideas and logos, and their design team created an amazing proof within 24 hours. They were happy to make several small adjustments to get everything perfect. The suit arrived right on schedule and the quality is outstanding!

FervoGear created a custom race suit for me and it has been an incredible experience. They delivered a perfectly fitting suit and went above and beyond by including free Nomex® gloves. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. Even more impressive — I had it just 3.5 weeks after ordering, with free shipping.

We love our one-piece race suit. The quality and looks were exactly what we were looking for — we ended up ordering a two-piece suit too. Thank you so much!

I ordered a custom full suit and realized too late that I also needed a sponsor logo for compliance with my team's agreements. The team was super quick to help and got it all sorted for me. Really happy with the service and will order again.

Custom drag suit questions

What SFI rating do I need for drag racing?
It depends on how quick you run. Quicker, higher-risk drag classes require a high SFI 3.2A tier — typically 3.2A/15 (~30 seconds of protection) for bracket, alcohol and nitrous cars, and 3.2A/20 (~40 seconds) for top fuel and funny car. Entry and slower street classes may still accept a double-layer 3.2A/5. Always match your NHRA or IHRA rulebook by class and e.t.
What is the difference between SFI 3.2A/15 and /20?
The number after the slash is the TPP rating — the seconds of thermal protection before a second-degree burn. A /15 gives about 30 seconds with three to four bonded Nomex® layers and covers most bracket, alcohol and nitrous cars. A /20 adds layers for roughly 40 seconds and is built for the fire risk of top-fuel and funny-car nitro classes.
Should I get a jacket-and-pants two-piece or a one-piece drag suit?
Both are legal when certified to your required tier. A one-piece seals the waist with no gap and is the classic pro look. A two-piece jacket and pants is easier to get in and out of in the staging lanes and lets you size the top and bottom independently. We build either, fully custom, to the same SFI rating.
Are your drag suits NHRA legal?
Yes — every suit is independently certified to its SFI 3.2A tier and ships with the SFI tag tech requires. Tell us your class and we build to the exact rating (/15 or /20) your NHRA or IHRA rulebook lists, so you pass tech without questions.
How long does a custom drag racing suit take?
About 3.5 weeks from your approved design and measurements. You see a free design mockup in roughly 3 hours, approve it, send your numbers, and we pattern and build the suit to your exact body.
How much does a custom drag racing suit cost?
A custom multi-layer SFI 3.2A/15 drag suit starts at $1,099 with free matching gloves and shoes; the top-fuel-rated SFI 3.2A/20 build starts at $1,399. Higher tiers cost more than a $799 double-layer SFI-5 because of the added Nomex® layers — every price is all-in with a free mockup.
