What is a single-layer (SFI 3.2A/1) race suit?
A single-layer race suit is a driving suit built from one layer of flame-resistant Nomex® meta-aramid, independently certified by the SFI Foundation to the 3.2A standard at the “/1” thermal level. The number is the TPP rating — roughly the seconds of protection before a second-degree burn — so a /1 gives about 3 seconds, versus ~10 for a double-layer /5.
With only one Nomex® layer, it’s the lightest, coolest and most affordable certified suit there is — the go-to for karting, entry-level racing, autocross and track days where a /1 is legal. Most rulebooks that allow it also require FR underwear underneath.
Single vs double layer →

What makes it single-layer
- One Layer of Certified Nomex®
A single layer of flame-resistant meta-aramid — the build that earns the SFI 3.2A/1 rating and roughly 3 seconds of fire protection.
- Lightest, Coolest Build
One layer means the least weight and the most airflow of any suit we make — a real difference on hot track days and long karting heats.
- Independently SFI 3.2A/1 Certified
Tested and certified by the SFI Foundation — the rating accepted for karting, autocross and many entry-level and track-day classes.
- Pairs With FR Underwear
Because it’s a single layer, most /1-legal rulebooks require flame-resistant underwear underneath — an easy way to add thermal protection.
- 100% Custom Design
Your colors, panels, sponsor logos and embroidered name — designed with you, free, with unlimited revisions before you pay.
- Our Most Affordable Suit
Single-layer starts at $349 — the lowest-cost certified suit FervoGear builds, with the same hand-finishing as our pricier suits.

Real flame. Real Nomex®. It chars, it doesn’t burn.
We held an open flame to the same flame-resistant Nomex® we use in every single-layer suit. It didn’t ignite, melt or drip — that’s the ~3 seconds the “/1” rating buys you, and the reason a single layer still beats any non-FR clothing.
- Won’t ignite — flame-resistant at the fiber level
- Won’t melt — chars in place to prevent burn-through
- SFI 3.2A certified, independently tested

The lightest suit you can race in — still certified
A single Nomex® layer means the least weight and the most airflow of any suit we make. On a hot karting day or a summer track day, that breathability is the difference between focusing on your line and fighting the heat — without giving up SFI 3.2A/1 certification.
Because it’s one layer, total thermal protection is about 3 seconds, so most /1-legal rulebooks also require FR underwear underneath. Cut to your exact measurements with 360° underarm gussets, the suit moves with you through every heat and session.

How to measure for a race suit →What customers say about us
I'm next-level PICKY. My first custom suit was a K1 suit and it sucked — stitching fell out, fit terribly, came back from alterations just as bad. Then I heard about FervoGear. Skeptical at first, but their designs were great and they're MADE IN AMERICA. We went all in and ordered four 3-layer suits — they all came out awesome. Super comfortable.
FervoGear's suits are hands down some of the best in the industry. We constantly get compliments on how sharp they look — people assume they must have cost thousands of dollars, yet they're surprisingly affordable. We've put them through intense conditions, including a few fires in the race car, and they still look brand new.
The entire process from start to finish was incredibly smooth. I sent over some basic design ideas and logos, and their design team created an amazing proof within 24 hours. They were happy to make several small adjustments to get everything perfect. The suit arrived right on schedule and the quality is outstanding!
FervoGear created a custom race suit for me and it has been an incredible experience. They delivered a perfectly fitting suit and went above and beyond by including free Nomex® gloves. The craftsmanship and attention to detail were outstanding. Even more impressive — I had it just 3.5 weeks after ordering, with free shipping.
We love our one-piece race suit. The quality and looks were exactly what we were looking for — we ended up ordering a two-piece suit too. Thank you so much!
I ordered a custom full suit and realized too late that I also needed a sponsor logo for compliance with my team's agreements. The team was super quick to help and got it all sorted for me. Really happy with the service and will order again.
